The Basics of Baccarat

Baccarat

A card game of elegance and sophistication, Baccarat is often associated with high stakes and luxury. But with a little effort and some understanding of the rules, even low rollers can enjoy this classic casino game at home or on their mobile devices.

The basic rules of baccarat are simple, and players wager on either the Player or Banker hand to win a game. The Dealer then sums up both hands and declares a winner based on those results. There are a number of side bets that can be placed in addition to the bets on the Player and Banker, including 9 for 1, which pays out nine chips to the winner while keeping the original chip bet. The rules for the Banker hand are a bit more complicated.

Baccarat is typically played with eight or six decks of cards that are dealt from a shoe. All cards have a specific numerical value, with 2s through 9 counting as their face value and tens and aces counted as zero. There are a few key terms that are important to understand in order to play Baccarat well.

One of the most important terms in baccarat is the word “Carte.” This is used to signal that you would like another card from the dealer, and it can be done by placing your hand on the table in front of the Dealer or calling out “Carte!”. This is also the term for a special tray that holds discarded or played cards in table games such as baccarat.
