Baccarat Strategy – Is it Possible to Get an Edge at Baccarat?

Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the easiest casino games to learn. Its rules are straightforward, and it can be played without the help of a dealer or an ace. There is no need to have a complicated strategy, although some tips are worth remembering.

Unlike blackjack, where the player plays against the dealer, in baccarat there are two hands: a player hand and a banker hand. These hands are dealt 2 cards and scored based on their total value. The winning hand is the one with a score closest to 9. In order to arrive at this score, all pips (the dots on each card that are arranged in groups of clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades) must be added together. Face cards are worth 0 points and aces count as one.

The game can be won by betting on either the player or banker hand. If you win a bet on the player, you will receive a 1:1 payout and pay a 5% commission to the house. You can also place a bet on the banker’s hand, which pays out 95% of your stake if you are correct.

Some players may wonder whether it is possible to get an edge at baccarat, by counting cards just like in blackjack. However, this is not a realistic approach to the game. Even if you were to manage to find a deck that gave you a positive edge, the number of wins and losses would be so small as to not make any difference in your overall profitability.
